The Assessment of Motor Process Skills AMPS is a standardized observational assessment widely used by occupational therapists to measure the quality of performance in activities of daily living ADL of persons across the age spectrum beginning at 3 years. Specifically, the AMPS tests functions that relate to purposeful, goal-oriented daily life tasks that a person wants, needs, and is expected to perform; it does not evaluate neuromuscular, biomechanical, cognitive, and psychosocial impairments Fisher, The current version of the assessment contains 83 calibrated ADL tasks that permit evaluation of 36 skills 16 motor, 20 process ; AMPS-trained raters must observe two or more specific tasks in 10—20 min increments.

Ay-Woan Pan, Anne G. Am J Occup Ther ;48 9 — The purpose of this study was to examine the discriminant validity of the Assessment of Motor and Process Skills AMPS when used to evaluate a heterogeneous sample of subjects with psychiatric disorders. Sixty subjects, ranging in age from 16 to 72 years, participated in this study; 30 were persons without disorders living in the community; 30 had diagnosed psychiatric disorders. Two univariate F tests were used to test the hypothesis that mean AMPS measures would differ significantly between the group with and the group without psychiatric disorders. The hypothesis was supported for both AMPS motor and process scale measures. As would be expected among a sample that includes many higher functioning persons, many subjects with psychiatric disorders did just as well as subjects in the group without psychiatric disorders.

Show all documents Comparison of self-reported and performance-based measures of functional ability in elderly patients in an emergency department: implications for selection of clinical outcome measures Based on the literature, Timed Up and Go TUG and 30s-Chair Stand Test 30s-CST were chosen to assess disability in relation to basic mobility [29, 30]. Both mea- sures are widely used at medical and geriatric departments and they are validated and feasible for use in elderly hospi- talised patients [31—33]. To get a broader perspective on functional ability [34], we supplemented measures of mobility with measures of quality in performance of daily activities. Phenocopy syndrome of behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia: a systematic review The functional profile of phFTD has also been investi- gated. The minimal follow-up period for the phFTD group in this study was 5 years. Taken together, these data support that there is no evidence of functional impairment in phFTD, suggesting that the assessment of daily activities may be useful to differentiate phFTD from bvFTD.

Development and initial validation of the Performance Skills Questionnaire (PSQ)

The Assessment of Motor and Process Skills AMPS is an observational assessment that allows for the simultaneous evaluation of motor and process skills and their effect on the ability of an individual to perform complex or instrumental and personal activities of daily living ADL. The AMPS is comprised of 16 motor and 20 process skill items. Motor skills are the observable goal-directed actions people perform during ADL task performance in order to move themselves or the task objects e. Process skills refer to the ability of an individual to logically sequence the actions of the ADL task performance over time e. Through the observation process, the therapist is able to use clinical reasoning to identify the underlying functional deficit in order to intervene to compensate for the deficit, if this is possible. Many-faceted Rasch analysis is used to allow for the calibration of: 1. The cutoff measures are 2.

Anne G. Fisher, Yihfen Liu, Craig A. Am J Occup Ther ;46 10 — A standardized activities of daily living evaluation that has acceptable psychometric qualities, can relate discrete component skills to functional performance, includes culture-relevant test items, is standardized on culture-specific samples, and is free of culture bias is needed to evaluate diverse cultural populations.

Occupational therapists are concerned with how people perform across the various daily activities that are important to them. It is recognised within occupational therapy that the presence of illness or disability might affect this performance. In order to assess how a person complete a task and identify what is making it unsatisfying, the occupational therapist will observe the person engaged in familiar activities. We have found the AMPS to be useful in assessing the performance of people with learning disabilities generally, as well as in assessing those with additional mental illness.
