It is completely separate from the FFG RPGs, and is far more streamlined, using D6 pools instead of Ds, as well as several mechanics designed to make the game simpler to play and easier to pick up for newcomers. Additionally, the game takes place during the "present day" of 40k i. The core rulebook features 17 pages about the Gilead System, with characters and locations given enough detail to help new GMs start a campaign including both a new Space Marine chapter the Absolvers and a new Imperial Guard regiment the Gilead Gravediggers. There is an introduction comic here revealing multiple game mechanics. A second and slightly more fluffy introductory piece is available here.

In case you missed it, check out our recent layout reveal here! The new Rulebook focuses on the Gilead System, allowing you to tell your own stories in a society beset by daemonic invasion and internal corruption. Character Creation has been streamlined, with a focus on Frameworks. The Factions Chapter is a primer on life in the 41st Millennium, detailing each of the organisations vying for supremacy in the Warp-torn Gilead System.

The Archetypes you know and love have been presented in an easy-to-read, single-page format. The Attribute, Skill, and Talent suggestions are ideal for guiding new players through making a character, or building quick NPCs on the fly.

There are other choices for investigative or social-based games. Talents like Conversational Cogitator bring the focus back to roleplaying, letting you use the augmetics of your mechanised mind to calculate the best response in any conversation. The new Advancement chapter has overhauled the Ascension system, allowing you to change Archetypes, take new Ascension Packages, or just spend your XP on cool stuff. The system is designed to be both robust and flexible to suit any group.

The essential Rules have been reviewed, edited, playtested, and presented with a focus on clarity and quick understanding. Combat is around every corner in the grim darkness of the 41st Millennium.

Combat is largely unchanged, apart from simplification, clarification, and some cool new optional rules, including an entirely new Stealth system. Still, somehow, chock full of typos and mechanics that do not function. I am at a loss as to how all of it made it into a release format. Probably should wait to see if they fix the errors before supporting, which is a shame to have to say.

Not saying this exempts them from the responsibility of proofreading their own product but at least they seem to be open to some degree of feedback. Luckily I didn't fall for WanG's trap the last time this released. I'd actually appreciate getting some honest opinions from people who were turned off it the last time around to see if things have actually improved. I wasn't surprised in the slightest when it had the depth of a paddling pool and pretty much required supplement books that never arrived.

I'd be willing to give Cubicle 7 a chance, even if their products always end up rough around the edges if overall pretty solid The art is a vast improvement though, I'll give them that.

My frustration here is that they got this license from someone else, who already had the mistakes in their book that were known mistakes and somehow that wasn't fixed. Speaking as someone who bought the first version and then this one, I feel like I got fooled twice and you know what they say about that It was likely to not have to work through Asmodee, who bought FFG in the time leading up to GW pulling back their licenses.

Though I don't know the specifics of whether it was Asmodee who didn't want to renew or GW who refused. Sorry missed this. Without making it a huge complaint thread, one of the craziest things is the removal of vehicles while leaving behind vehicle focused skills. I suppose I get the removal of vehicle rules was a space thing bc the expanded setting, etc. Okay that's weird and a bit annoying but nothing gamebreaking at least.

Perhaps they'll add in vehicles with a future book if things go well enough. If you haven't already, I'd strongly suggest you or anyone, really drop them a comment via the Google Form I linked here and let them know about this.

It'd be silly if the books went to print with half the vehicle rules in them. It'd be much better if they were added wholesale to the system in an expansion. Although I get that some people like the crowd sourcing aspect of this, it a personal pet peeve to ask paying customers to edit professional work. I'm sure they already went through their own process of proofreading etc.

You won't believe how happy I would've been if CGL would have let the community proofread their Shadowrun stuff before releasing it because they seriously suck at it. I completely agree with you. It's not great but at least everyone "wins" in the end. It's limited to a single star system, and even then the detail on said star system is pretty meh in comparison.

Some of the plot hooks are interesting enough. Absolutely not hating on the book - I actually really want to try this system out - but it certainly feels pretty light on background. The section on the Gilead Sector is only 18 pages long as opposed to the 42 pages on DH1's Calixis or the 30 given to DH2's Askellion, and it's particularly stark when you compare like-for-like on things like the page count given to the Sector Capitals.

Gilead Primus only gets two pages of background, whereas Scintilla back in DH1 got the best part of eight pages given over to fleshing out its eccentricities and various hives and cities. Significantly less meat on the bones.

I think it is almost an entirely different sort of look at the 40k universe. FFG version had Alan Bligh at his best, and that is going to be hard impossible to be honest for anyone to follow up on an initial release or even with several supplement books. But it certainly is more shiny. Having bought a copy I can say that it is far better layed out than the old one, the problem I had with the previous one was that pages would run over but only by a sentence or two then move on to something different whereas this one doesn't suffer from that nearly as badly as the old one.

I will say I agree its light on fluff but I think thats mainly because the devs don't want people to feel limited and allowing them to create their own systems and sectors. Which, lets be honest, for any average hobbiest won't be too much of a problem as there is a wealth of information easily found elsewhere.

Posted 24 April - AM. Is the setting as rich? Posted 25 April - PM. I haven't read the new pdf but if they haven't added any new setting details then my answer is, "Not by a million miles. But the setting is fairly generic because of it. If I recall, ADB had written a whole chapter for their setting, but because of deadlines it didn't make it into the final product. So what mechanics don't function? A comment like that needs evidence. If you're talking about vehicles, it's entirely possible they might be added in a future supplement.

What else doesn't work? I'm actually very interested in this game. I don't need 50 pages of lore, I just need this to be easy to pick up, play and understand. I didn't enjoy Dark Heresy at all due to the overly complicated body part hits, and that game was crushingly slow and boring at times. Posted 26 April - PM.
